Those responsible for Bing and Microsoft in general, they are living the days of wine and roses thanks to their search engine. Well, wine and roses and a lot of work, because as we’ve been telling you for the past few weeks, it’s rare that we don’t find some change on a fashion chatbot, and although some of them have had their functionality reduced, the vast majority of updates have worked in the opposite direction, i.e. adding new features, expanding limits, solving problems, etc.
So you from Redmond have been able to take advantage of ChatGPT in recent monthsand they also significantly improved the design of the OpenAI chatbot by making Prometheus, the model used by the new Bing, connected to the Internet, so it always offers updated information and, very importantly, cites the sources it uses in each answer. So in this case, we can trust the information provided by the chatbot because we have the possibility to know its origin.
Microsoft was also very smart not to open the new Bing directly to all users. who want to use it. The reason given by the company is that they want to do a gradual deployment in the testing phase, gather as much feedback as possible, so that when it is fully released, it will be completely reliable. And I do not deny that it is one of the reasons, but not the only one. Another important aspect that I think Microsoft has considered very well is that the services that use this system generally generate much more interest among users. Consider, for example, what happened to the Clubhouse.
As a result of all of the above, and as stated by Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s head of consumer marketing, in a post on the search engine’s official blog, Bing has reached one hundred million daily active users. Some metrics suggest that Google is hovering around one billion daily active users, so we’re talking about Microsoft’s search engine already growing to about 10% of Google’s traffic.
Talking coldly about 10% may seem like a small thing, but in fact it is a great result, if we leave aside the absolute supremacy of Google, the practically universal reference for searching information on the Internet. That the Redmond guys have now reached a fairly rounded figure where the chatbot is still not accessible to everyone is a sign that this growth path may still have a long, long way to go.
