IFixit has identified an important nuance in its iPhone self-repair program

Apple has launched a self-repair program for iPhone (Self Service Repair Program). And that may sound like a great idea, but there are caveats. IFixit experts praised Apple for such an initiative (although the company was forced to take such a step by new laws), but emphasized that a major problem remained.

The fact is that almost all essential components in Apple smartphones cannot be simply taken and replaced. They must be connected to the device at the software level. As part of the self-repair program, this works as follows: when purchasing spare parts, the buyer must enter the device’s serial number or IMEI, and all ordered parts must be associated with the specified device after installation. Customers must contact self-service store support via chat or phone to initiate a matching process known as System Configuration. According to iFixit, this strategy limits the possibility of third-party repair through loss-of-function and intimidation tactics and could significantly limit the opportunities for companies interested in iPhone recovery.

You can buy the official screen of Apple iPhone 12 today and install it on your device easily. Until now, repairing it with your own hands was keeping the integrity of the speaker and Face ID sensor, then very carefully moving them to a new screen, and finally ignoring some OS warnings. If your assembly is damaged or faulty, you’re out of luck. The new program will fix this problem, provided you have purchased the official Apple partition.

But you need to enter the serial phone number or IMEI to check this part. And when you’re done installing the part, you need to connect it to the phone you specified when purchasing using the wireless configuration software. The need to assemble the pieces actually determines the iPhone’s expiration date. When a mechanic buys a working phone without a spare part, they can’t completely restore a product that needs a screen replacement, even if it’s an original Apple screen from another phone.. Source
