The fact is that many AMD fans were wondering why the company didn’t release an alternative to the GeForce RTX 4090, that is, a graphics card based on the RDNA3 architecture that was able to compete with NVIDIA’s flagship. Rick Bergman, Executive Vice President of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Business Group, and David Wang, Senior Vice President of Engineering in AMD’s Radeon Technologies Group, answered this question very clearly in an interview with ITMedia.

Theoretical they could use the RDNA3 architecture to develop a much more powerful GPU than the current Navi 31. This has 6,144 shaders and as we said, it competes with the GeForce RTX 4080, so to be at the level of the GeForce RTX 4090, they would have to increase the number of shaders by at least 30-40% depending on the clock.working maximum.

And why didn’t they? The answer is quite simple, because it would be a product with too much consumption and because it would have a very high price. In this sense, Rick Bergman gave the wrong information, that the GeForce RTX 4090 does not have a TGP of 600 watts, but rather this 450 watts. That’s why I like to play so deep into each architecture and each new release and think AMD has done a great job with RDNA 3and that you have done a good job with that 80% improvement in ray tracing performance, but you still have work to do and one of them should become your priority: a true rival for DLSS 3 and generation of images.

We’ll see what AMD surprises us with when it introduces the RDNA4 architecture, but the first information we’ve seen suggests that it will retain the same basis as the current generationthis means they will re-use the infinite cache and it will be externalized.
