The issue of PC games and inflated requirements is nothing new, it’s a problem that has been around in the world of compatible games forever and for the first time I lived with a game that I really wanted to play but without buying it I wasn’t sure why, in theory it wouldn’t work well for mebecause she barely met the minimum requirements.
I’m talking about Final Fantasy VII, from the original from the late 90s. It’s one of my favorite games in all of history, but I was going to stay wanting to play it because of the happy inflated requirements. Back then, meeting the minimum requirements was synonymous with running the game, but you didn’t know how you would perform.and that made me panic because I might end up throwing money away.
I ended up going on an adventure, even though it’s true game performance was far from optimal, it moved well during exploration, which was the least demanding part and in combat it worked acceptably, although when running demanding summons like the one with the “Knights of the Round Table” the performance issues were clear and everything was quite slow until the summon was completed.
Still, I managed to enjoy it. I put more than 100 hours into it, duplicated subjects and killed all “weapons” at a time when internet access was still a “scarcity”. This encouraged me to try other games like it resident evil 2, a game that I barely met the minimum requirements for and ended up enjoying to the fullest. In the end, the humble S3 Virgin with 4 MB of graphics memory, which was theoretically useless, did some miracles.
In the following years and generations, the trend of PC games with inflated requirements remained very clear, although its severity varied depending on the situation. Curiously, since Sony’s entry into the world of PC gaming with its exclusives, this problem has been highlighted againand in such an over-the-top way that it’s equal parts uncomfortable and laughable.
We’ve seen it before with Returnal it was all a facade after all, and that the game can run on 8GB of RAM, that it moves well with a 4-core and 8-thread processor, and that even an 8GB Radeon RX 580 will run it at maximum 1080p resolution and maximum quality. With The Last of Us Part I for PC, it’s clear that Sony has gone back to their old ways and inflated their claims to a level that exceeds all limits of absurdity, even listing components that don’t exist.
My opinion has already been made quite clear, I believe that this type of practice shows a deep ignorance of PC hardware, is disrespectful to the players of the said platform and has a strong marketing or advertising component, because makes you believe that the console is more powerful than a high-end PC because unrealistic requirements were given.
On the other hand, it is also bad for the user because may lead you to believe that you should not buy a certain game because of its high requirements, when in reality he could play it quite well. This is also bad for the company, which ends up losing revenue. Now I would like to know your opinion on this topic, so I will give you comments. we read each other
