You’ll soon be able to more easily select OneDrive files in Microsoft Teams and accept a meeting with the push of a button on Teams-certified hardware.
According to the official Microsoft 365 roadmap, Microsoft Teams will soon receive many new features. For the time being, there is no mention of the brand new version, which is supposed to work much faster, but other functions have been given a deadline. An update on the latest improvements that have been added can be found here.
The most notable novelty and is the addition of spatial audio. This is 3D audio that rotates with you as you move. It should give the audience the impression that they are in a physical meeting room. The technology giant does not explain how Microsoft intends to implement this technology via loudspeakers, a headset or earphones. The feature will roll out to all Windows and Mac users in May.
Better OneDrive and a Teams button
Another major addition to Teams Rooms devices is an update to the AI model to put participants more actively at the forefront. Individual backgrounds are removed better and the AI applies a universal background as if everyone is in the same room. This feature will be rolling out to Teams Rooms desktop devices in May.
Teams-certified hardware often has a dedicated (purple) button that lets you instantly join a meeting with the press of a button. It was theoretically possible, but it didn’t work consistently. In an update rolling out in April for Windows and Mac, when you get a notification, you can instantly join the call by pressing the button. An additional push of a button adds waiting participants to the meeting.
In a forthcoming update you will receive a new interface for easier selection of OneDrive files in Microsoft Teams. Files in SharePoint should also be more accessible with the new user interface.
This month, on Windows and Mac, you can enable a second video stream to support your own video and the Team Content Camera feature. As soon as you activate the latter function, you can now add a second video stream in addition to your own video.
The content camFeature is currently only available in Split-Section. With the new update rolling out in March, you can start and stop streaming content from the Teams button on certified hardware. For example, the moderator can share a whiteboard document or video much faster during a meeting.
All features in this article are scheduled to run between March and May. As always, the deadline imposed by Microsoft is not a guarantee and certain features may be introduced to Teams sooner or later.
