Russia’s invasion of Ukraine brought us quite a handful of unfortunate episodes for human history on all levels. Aside from the human drama, Russia knows that if it wants to win, it has to crush Ukraine in every sector where the attacked country can gain ground, so this should come as no surprise. developer announcement STALKER. about what its employees’ accounts were hacked by “the Russian social network community,” according to its version.

STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, abbreviated to STALKER 2 by many, is a game developed by the Ukrainian company GSC Game World, which is a continuation of the well-known title that was released a decade and a half ago, albeit temporarily. level will take place in an alternate line in which the second disaster that occurred in 2006 caused the appearance of monsters, mutants and hard-to-explain phenomena in the Chernobyl zone, located in the Ukrainian city of Pripyat.

The formula seems to remain the same or very similar, with a mixture of first-person shooter and survival horror, however, it has taken forever to develop since it launched in 2010 and was able to have at least one reboot. that it is now ported to Unreal Engine 5, although graphically it appears to be quite advanced as seen in the latest videos posted by GSC Game World.

Back to the issue that really concerns us, GSC Game World explained that the alleged Russian hackers who broke into the accounts of their employees threatened to use the data obtained for blackmail and intimidation.. The situation for GSC Game World seems to be complicated in recent years. The developer said that for more than a year, it has faced extortion, aggression, hacking attempts, attempts to harm users and followers, and efforts by external agents to damage the development process and even the image of the company itself.

Regarding the development of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, GSC Game World has asked people to refrain from viewing or spreading information about the game, because outdated work and work-in-progress material can dilute the impression of the final product and the authentic idea they intend to capture in the work. This opens the door to the understanding that attackers were able to obtain game material, still in the development phase, which of course can end up being published by other people, without counting the possibility of it being manipulated by malicious actors.

GSC Game World has demonstrated its commitment to Ukraine and the completion of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl under the ideas they want to introduce to the game, and also thanked the people for their support in achieving their goals.

As a reminder, GSC Game World decided to relocate from Ukraine to the Czech Republic due to the aforementioned war, but that didn’t stop Russian malicious cyber actors from attacking them for months, and these malicious actors will certainly continue to try to harm the company after obtaining employee accounts.
