US company illegally exported 600 stolen engines to Mexico

Carlos Orlando Ledesma, 57, and Nadia Esperanza Ledesma, 46, both Miami residents, pleaded guilty to conspiring to export nearly 600 stolen outboard motors to Mexico through a shipping company in the southeastern Florida city.

U.S. Attorney’s Office released a statement on Monday saying that earlier on February 22, two other defendants in the case, Roberto Marrero Cisneros, 65, and Osmani Valdivia Perez, 55, also pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Marrero Cisneros placed fake serial numbers on stolen engines to cover up the theft.

Defendants created fake bills of sale and submitted fraudulent export data to US authorities

Most of the engines were sent to Thomas Vale Valdivia, a man who participated in the conspiracy and lived in Mexico.

Vail Valdivia was sentenced to 57 months on January 28, 2020 for smuggling foreigners in a separate case from the auto theft case that was being heard by U.S. District Judge Kathleen M. Williams.

Vale Valdivia is the nephew of Valdivia Perez, who made cash payments to the defendants in this case.

Cash payments included the delivery of amounts to pure cycle for export fees for stolen engines, Marrero Cisneros for posting false serial numbers, and the people who stole them.

Federal District Judge Robert N. Scola has scheduled sentencing hearings for Marrero Cisneros and Valdivia Perez for May 8, and for Carlos Orlando and Nadia Esperanza Ledesma for May 23.

U.S. Attorney Marchenzie Lapointe for the District South Florida announced a guilty plea.
