Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed that a member of its army has been missing since last Thursday morning, but was found on the coast of mainland China in recent hours.
The government assured that there are mechanisms to determine whether the soldier deserted or for what reasons the officer did not call the roll call.
The Taiwanese news agency said in a statement that the soldier went missing on Erdan Island, located 5 kilometers from the Chinese city of Xiamen, and a special team has already been formed to contact him.
Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council Minister Chiu Tai-San said China had released the whereabouts of the soldier.
Chiu did not disclose the situation between the two countries with which contact will take place and the whereabouts of the soldier.
