UN seeks to create a global drug strategy

Yesterday in the week United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in which more than 100 subject matter experts drugs and state representatives to create international drug control strategy and recommend measures to combat the world drug problem.

The UN has indicated that the war on drugs failedbecause consumption has not decreased, and the number of prisoners continues to grow around the world.

At the first session, they presented strategies for the future and break with past tactics that didn’t work. Among these new forms are proposed abolition of the death penalty for drug-related crimes, shared responsibility with a multilateral and regional approach, inclusion of a gender perspective, and reaffirmation of the fight against drug trafficking and supply and demand reduction.

In the coming days, there will be events dedicated to discussing the drug problem from different points of view. Some of the topics are peace and drug policy; drug policy and economic, social and cultural rights; compensation for the war on drugs and drug policy in Latin America.

With regard to confiscations, the issues of drug transit countries and the dynamics of migration in the face of drug trafficking chains were discussed. The issue of access to controlled substances for medical and scientific purposes was also discussed.
