In southern Canada, the first Volkswagen factory for the production of batteries for electric cars will be built outside of Europe.
According to the Ukrinform correspondent, this was expressed by Canadian Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne.
“Volkswagen has announced that it has chosen St. Thomas, Ontario to build its first automotive battery factory outside of Europe. This news is a key sign of the trust placed in Canada and Ontario and the work we are doing together to make the country and province a global leader in the electric car supply chain. confirmation,” he said.
He said this historic investment confirms Canada’s strong battery ecosystem and Ontario’s competitive business environment.
“This investment is another important step we are taking towards building a clean transportation industry and meeting global and North American demand for cars with zero harmful emissions,” the minister said.
Champagne added that he will continue this success by developing Canada’s electric vehicle ecosystem and supporting clean technologies, creating high-paying jobs and promoting economic growth and success for future generations.
“We are an attractive investment center that has everything for successful company growth with a trained workforce, clean energy, a large number of critical minerals, access to markets and a developed automotive and battery industry. “Canada and Ontario also offer stability and predictability to their partners.”
As reported, global electric car sales rose 68% to 7.8 million units in 2022. The total share of electric cars in the total annual automobile sales volume approached 10%.
