Google clouds

After Microsoft, Google is also introducing a sovereign cloud service in our country. Service partner is now also Proximus.

Proximus cooperates with Google to offer a sovereign cloud service in our country. The provider has signed a contract with Google Cloud for at least five years Google distributed cloud hosted offer. The partnership brings Google Cloud functionality to an infrastructure separate from the US company.

As already mentioned, it is by definition impossible for an American company to offer a truly sovereign cloud service without a local partner. Finally, sovereignty in this context guarantees that there is no way for an outside government to access the data in the cloud, and US cloud providers are subject to far-reaching US laws that may oblige them to provide access anyway. The only way to offer sovereign cloud services is to work together to outsource the functionality of the cloud to a partner like Proximus.

Google Cloud without Google Cloud

The provider will now offer decoupled solutions in which the functions, solutions and tools known from Google Cloud are available from an on-premises data center without the need for a connection to Google Cloud. Management is also carried out by Proximus, so that customers are protected from any form of external interference.

Google and Proximus mainly target governments and heavily regulated European companies with sensitive data. Proximus markets Google Distributed Cloud Hosted not only in our country but also in Luxembourg. To this end, Proximus works with the state-owned company LuxConnect.

Local data center

In essence, a sovereign cloud in this context means that the customer does not really do business with a hyperscaler, but opts for the services of a local data center. Thanks to the collaboration, these services are de facto the same as in the public cloud.

Step by step, Proximus is positioning itself as a specialist for sovereignty in the cloud. In the summer of last year, the provider announced a first offer in cooperation with Microsoft. The Azure based Cloud for sovereignty follows exactly the same principle.
