The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) chose Firefly Aerospace to carry several payloads to the far side of the Moon, including a satellite.

This was reported on the NASA website, Ukrinform reports.

“The commercial lander will deliver two agency payloads and a communications and data satellite to lunar orbit, an ESA (European Space Agency) project in collaboration with NASA,” the statement said.

As mentioned, the value of the contract is approximately $112 million. The mission is scheduled to launch in 2026 as part of the Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative overseen by NASA as part of the Artemis lunar program.

Firefly will be responsible for end-to-end delivery services, including payload integration, delivery from Earth to the lunar surface and into orbit, and payload operations during NASA’s first lunar day.

Firefly Aerospace is a private aerospace company created on the basis of Firefly Space Systems, which was acquired and relaunched in 2017 by Maksym Polyakov, a Ukrainian entrepreneur and founder of Noosphere Ventures. In February of this year, he sold his stake in the company at the request of the US government.
