The American space agency NASA has introduced new spacesuits for the astronauts of the Artemis III mission. The clothes were designed by Axiom Space.

This was reported on the websites of NASA and Axiom Space company, as reported by Ukrinform.

The spacesuit, developed by the American company Axiom Space, was introduced at the Houston Space Center.

It is known that costume designer Esther Marquis, who took part in the Apple TV + science fiction series For All Mankind, took part in the work on the spacesuit. The prototype is more flexible than its Apollo-era equivalent and is made in dark gray and orange – but in actual use, the suit would be white to reflect sunlight and prevent the astronauts from overheating.

The company claims the advantages of the new suit include increased flexibility, better protection, and an expanded toolkit for research studies.

Spacesuits or extravehicular mobility vehicles (EMUs) are essentially autonomous spacecraft that come with all the necessary systems to keep astronauts alive in the harsh, radiation-rich environment that prevails outside the Earth’s atmosphere.

NASA added that the suit will fit at least 90% of the US population – both men and women.

“The next generation of Axiom spacesuits will not only allow the first woman to walk on the moon, but also create opportunities for more people to do scientific research and explore on the moon than ever before,” said NASA Administrator Bill Nelson.

A complete set of next-generation training spacesuits will be delivered to NASA by the end of summer this year.

As reported, NASA has planned to return humans to the moon’s surface as part of the Artemis III mission, the first human landing on the moon since Apollo and the first expedition with a female astronaut in 2025-2026, but it’s highly likely. that the expedition would be delayed due to technological difficulties and lack of funding.
