Microsoft hopes to attract more people with no programming experience to its power platform by integrating an AI-based copilot there as well.
You want to automate something? Then all you have to do is ask. And preferably not to the overworked developers in the basement, but to Microsoft Copilot. Under this heading Microsoft integrates the GPT-4large language model (LLM) within its Power Platform. The announcement is part of that future of workEvent by the company, which also announced Copilot for Microsoft 365 along with a business version of ChatGPT called Business Chat during this digital event.
Copilot brings LLM-AI to Power Apps, Power Virtual Agents and Power Automate. The intent is for the copilot to help staff build automations by actually doing most of the technical work. In theory, Copilot can create an automation in seconds using a description in your own words.
By making automation easier, Microsoft says a significant part of modern work reaches a much wider audience. Redmond hopes that by injecting GPT-4 intelligence, the Power Platform will become as accessible as classic Microsoft 365 apps like Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Microsoft goes on to point out that it has been integrating AI into its low-code platform since 2019. However, Copilot needs to give skills a significant boost.
The technology will not only help people build automations and applications within the Power Platform, but will itself become a component of Power Applications. Finally, you can use Copilot in Power Virtual Agents to integrate a GPT-based chatbot with Power Applications.
It is still unclear how this will work in practice and when this future vision will become reality. Microsoft, like Google, is not giving details on pricing or availability of its future AI integrations.
