A beta release of macOS Ventura 13.3 contains information that Siri is getting a new NLP framework to better understand our natural language.

For several months, OpenAI has been making waves with ChatGPT, an intelligent AI based on Natural Language Processing (NLP) understands a language and works with it like a human being. With Siri, Apple has a language assistant that does its job functionally, but does not perform at the level of Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa today.

Apple may want to take Siri to the next level with the introduction of a Siri Natural Language Generation framework. According to 9to5Mac, the macOS Ventura 13.3 beta includes information about improvements to Siri.

According to the beta post, Apple now only uses NLP to tell jokes with Siri. The Cupertino-based company is in beta experimenting with how NLP can be used for timers and other applications.

9to5Mac notes that the iPadOS and iOS beta also include new Siri features as code, but these have not yet been unlocked. There is a good chance that an improved Siri will be rolled out on all platforms in the long term.

It is currently unclear that Apple wants to compete with OpenAI, Microsoft and Google with the new Siri update.
