President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoganannounced this Friday that it gives green light for Finland to join NATO while accession negotiations with Sweden will continue.

The President of Turkey made such statements at a press conference in Ankara together with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinistö.

“We will start the process of submitting a protocol on Finland’s accession to NATO to parliament,” Erdogan said, adding that he hoped the process could be completed before the parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for next year. May 14.

“I signed the protocol and we sent it to the parliament. I hope that the process will be completed before the elections,” the president said.
