What is HIMAR?

Reactive volley shot system with increased mobility.

Purpose – to attack:

– enemy concentrations, artillery and other weapons

– command posts and control systems

-PP systems,

– technical support units.

What are the benefits:

– versatility – a volley of up to 6 rockets or an operational and tactical ballistic missile ATACMS;

– increased mobility – the system is based on the FMTV chassis (medium family of tactical vehicles);

– high level of automation and accuracy;

– in a volley of 6 guided missiles with cluster bombs, each missile is divided into many small charges. The system is capable of hitting targets over a wide area;

– “airportable” system (ready time is not more than 10 minutes after disembarkation)

– relatively low price – about 5.6 million dollars.

– power reserve – 480 km;

– the engine works in conjunction with an automatic transmission in seven ranges;

– the crew consists of three people: driver, gunner, commander;

Transport and charging machine

– truck with crane and trailer.

– Like a combat vehicle, it has a 6×6 wheel formula.

– The crane is located at the back of the truck.

HIMARS launcher can fire:

– unguided M26 rockets with a range of 32-45 km;

– guided projectiles M30 / 31, reaching 60-70 km;

– long-range ballistic missiles of the ATACMS series, with a maximum range from 300 km to several meters. Combat unit – 227 kg.

TO BE CAREFUL! We can say that this is a much more accurate and long-range analogue of the Soviet “Point-U”.

– the charging mechanism can be controlled both from the driver’s cabin and with the remote control.

The second option is especially suitable for learning – it is open.

Special importance for Ukraine

– the system makes it possible to hit military facilities – airports, headquarters, communication centers – located near the border with Ukraine;

Where it was first used:

– In the Iraq war in 2010.

Where the system is in service:

– In addition to the United States, this missile and tactical complex is in service with Turkey, UAE, Bahrain, Finland, Greece, South Korea, Taiwan, Estonia and Romania.

When will it be in Ukraine:

– Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland announced on April 24, 2022 that the supply of multiple rocket launchers has begun. But he did not specify which MLRS complexes were in question (in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda on April 22, 2022).
