Around 30.5 million computer screens were sold in the fourth quarter of 2022. That’s not a big number. Since IDC has been observing the market, the analyst firm has recorded such a low shipping volume. The market is shrinking by around 16.2 percent. Monitor sales are suffering from the same macroeconomic challenges as PC sales, and IDC sees no immediate improvement. For 2023, the sector is expected to shrink by a further 9.8 percent.
Like the PC market, monitor sales saw some booms during the pandemic. This year, volume shipped will fall below pre-COVID levels, but IDC expects volumes to recover to normal by 2024. This is partly due to excess inventory held by sellers.
Dell remains the top seller with two fingers in the nose with a market share of around 21 percent. HP, Lenovo, Samsung and China’s TPV all hold between 10 and 12 percent of the market, with HP occupying only second place.
