Shorts was announced and launched in 2020 and as of today successfully competes with TikTok and Instagram. The service has earned its audience and creators trying to create content, so now is the time to advertise on YouTube considered.
Why Shorts Ad
A company spokesperson said the platform has begun testing ways to monetize videos on Shorts, given the service’s growing audience and the increase in the amount of time users spend on YouTube in general. The video hosting rep also noted that previous feedback and results from advertisers “inspired optimism overall.”
According to Google, the YouTube Shorts service calculates: 30 billion views daily, four times more than in 2021. YouTube’s ad revenue increased in the first quarter $6.86 billion. However, experts were expecting more growth, especially in some segments.
Monetization Shorts
The news comes after YouTube has set up a $100 million short video fund – the company is trying to attract writers and viewers from services like TikTok to its platform. In August 2021, it was announced that YouTube would pay creators of popular videos up to $10,000 per month. At the time, the company was considering alternatives to monetization for writers until it developed a new way to monetize itself and creators.
Plans to monetize writers on Shorts for use in the Super Chat service with paid items from the possibility of shopping directly on Shorts during the screening of the video were also discussed in February. Using ads will be just one step towards monetizing the platform. One way or another, in the Russian segment, monetization for political reasons is still almost completely absent.
