Google Maps is starting to roll out Immserive View

It seems like a lie, but It’s been about a year since Google first told us about Google Maps Immersive View.during Google I/O 2022. As we were told at the time, and we can also infer from its name, this new mode aims to provide a much more immersive map exploration experience than what we can currently get from a combination of Maps and Street View mode, which it has been so popular and useful for many years.

Remember that immersive mode combines Google Maps in a single environment picturesque views of the city, its landmarks, suggestions of places to see or visit and views into the interior of some buildings. It can even show alternative views of certain areas, such as at night, in bad weather or in busy conditions, to better suit different contexts, so we can find one that matches the characteristics of the moment we’re thinking about.

It doesn’t stop there, as Immersive View was also the goal real-time traffic and weather information. In other words, it aims to be as close as possible to accessing a web camera that shows us a real-time image of a given location along with updated information about it. Of course, with Immersive View, we won’t have the image from this very moment, but on the contrary, it will have multiple views.

Last February at the Live in Paris event, Google announced that it was starting to deploy Immservive View on Google Maps, but despite this, until now it seems that no one, or practically no one, has had access to this new service mode.. However, as we can see on Reddit, some users are already starting to access Immersive View in Google Maps through their apps, in which they could verify that the service is already offered in cities such as Berlin and London.

At this time, it is not known how many users have already gained access to this new mode, and it is not known on what basis Google selected them, but it does not appear that they are part of any program beta testers, so we can understand that wider deployment is coming. Now, as we can read in the same publication, it seems like you are still not providing all the promised information in your presentationbecause it does not display traffic status data in real time.

On the other hand, this user also points out something that we could already imagine and that makes sense, which is the high volume of data consumption in this new mode. In his tests, which lasted about half an hour, he claims to have consumed around two gigabytes. Here, of course, the enormous number of images that this mode has to display is combined with its intensive use during tests. However, this is something we should not forget when we finally get to use it.
