Ford will produce Explorer SUVs at its EV campus in Cologne, Germany. The company has invested $1 billion there as part of its plans to switch its European passenger car lineup to electric models by the end of the decade.
The Explorer will be one of two electrified models built on the Volkswagen MEB platform. At the same time, Ford expects to produce 1.2 million cars in the next six years.
The Explorer was a bestseller during the early SUV boom of the 1990s and was one of Ford’s most profitable vehicles.
As reported by Ukrinform, on March 3 this year, the Mercedes-Benz automobile company began construction of an ecological battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim in southern Germany.
