Proximus intends to include Edpnet in the group as an independent entity. She pays a total of 20.5 million euros.

As a result of the takeover, Proximus will gain 46,000 additional customers for fixed-line Internet and 13,500 customers with a mobile phone contract. The M2M contracts were not included in these figures. Proximus takes over the assets of Edpnet’s Belgian and Dutch branches and intends to integrate the brand as a separate entity within the Proximus Group.

According to Proximus, the latter is important because it wants to guarantee maximum continuity for all existing customers and employees. Edpnet mainly has private customers, SMEs here and there.

With the takeover of Edpnet, Proximus wants to open up a market segment that still promises many growth opportunities. According to the provider, the current customer database consists of a balanced geographic mix with a growing number of customers migrating to fiber optics.

“Edpnet’s current products in the private customer segment complement Proximus’ existing brands and offerings well. Also on the B2B market, the Edpnet offer is a valuable addition for the group, allowing it to better respond to the needs of SME customers and continue to grow in this segment,” says Proximus.

practical problems

In the coming weeks, existing Edpnet customers will be personally informed about the acquisition and the practical things they need to consider when making the transition.

Last week, when the Proximus acquisition was still a rumor, the reactions weren’t exactly positive. Consumer organization Test Aankoop fears the takeover would be a bad thing for Edpnet’s customers. If, after Scarlet and Mobile Vikings, Edpnet also falls into the hands of one of the big players, there will be even less competition on the market, according to Test Aankoop.

Protection from creditors

In October 2022, Edpnet filed for bankruptcy protection. As the provider’s service provider, Proximus viewed the situation with suspicion. She was also one of the main creditors.

On January 12, 2023, the court decided to open a type 3 judicial reorganization procedure with a view to a possible transfer of activities to the judicial authority. Proximus then submitted a binding offer for 20.5 million euros.
