WhatsApp is developing a new functionality for Android that allows you to open instant messaging application on two mobile terminals at the same time with the same phone number or user.

Currently, WhatsApp allows you to connect the smartphone app with other devices such as computers or tablets via the Linked devices option with the Web version.

Users can use up to four connected devices and one phone simultaneously, and the phone does not need to stay online to use WhatsApp on these devices. However, if more than 14 days have passed and the phone has not been used, the connected devices will be disconnected, according to the company’s website statement.

WABetaInfo recently noticed a change in the way a user connects an account to other technological devices in the new version 2.22.10.13 released through the Google Play beta program that the company is running.

In a screenshot shared by this portal, a new section called Register device as companion has been added that will appear when the user tries to open the app on a second mobile device.

In order to connect the application on both, it will be necessary to scan the QR code displayed on the screen of the main device with the second mobile phone. As WABetaInfo has underlined, with this function it will also be possible in the future to connect a tablet as a secondary device with Android operating system.

At the moment, the release date of this new feature is unknown and it is not known whether it will be implemented on devices with the iOS operating system.
