The Ministry of Digital Transformation is preparing changes in legislation to enable the government to control the speed of mobile internet. This will allow Ukrainians to receive quality services from mobile operators.

According to Ukrinform, this was announced in Telegram, Deputy Prime Minister responsible for Innovations, Education, Science and Technology Development – Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

“Speed is one of the indicators that operators use as a competitive advantage. However, there is no such indicator in the new Electronic Communications Law. Therefore, in the future, the government will not be able to check whether the download speed is really sufficient everywhere. We are currently preparing changes to the legislation. This is the speed of the state. It will keep him under control.”

Fedorov emphasized that the average mobile Internet speed in Ukraine should be at least 2 Mbit/s. This is minimally enough to call colleagues on the go, post videos on Instagram and share files without Wi-Fi from a smartphone.

“This speed should be in all settlements and on roads with mobile communication. In cities the real indicator is much higher, but in some villages – on the contrary, due to the smaller number of cell towers,” summarized the head of the Ministry of Statistics.

As reported, the joint application of mobile operators of Ukraine and the EU has been extended for another 6 months, with the possibility of further extension. This will allow Ukrainians to continue to communicate with their loved ones in the EU at affordable prices of the European free movement zone.
