Dell introduces new laptops in its Latitude range. The exterior gets a new look and the interior gets new components.
Dell announces an update of its business laptop portfolio. In contrast to the OptiPlex portfolio, the different ranges within the Latitude family are retained. Within all of these series we see an important common denominator: the new heart of the laptops comes from Intel and takes the form of a thirteenth generation Raptor Lake CPU.
It’s not just the inside that has changed, Dell is also taking a new approach to the outside. This is more than a coat of paint. The new Latitude 9440 2-in-1 gets a completely new design that is said to be inspired by the Dell XPS series. Read: Premium finish and thin screen bezels. The keyboard also changes, with a design that leaves no space between keys.
The 14-inch laptop also gets something from Dell Collaboration touchpad Calls. That’s marketing parlance for a touchpad that displays hotkeys when you’re on a video call. Think of a clearly visible mute button that is in the right place at the right time. At launch, this feature will only work with Zoom, but Teams integration needs to follow for the second half of the year.
Inside the Dell Latitude 9440 you’ll find up to an Intel Core i7 (vPro), 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 2TB of storage. The laptop is configurable with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 on an IPS touchscreen. Dell claims that its colors cover 100 percent of the sRGB spectrum.
One level down we see the Latitude 7000 series. It is available in three sizes: 13 inches, 14 inches and 16 inches. A screen ratio of 16:10 is standard, like the rest of the portfolio. The devices are aluminum, with options for a dark color ultralight Magnesium variant. Dell, for example, is bringing the 13-inch and 14-inch laptops under the 1kg target weight, although we suspect this will affect the entry-level configurations as usual.
These laptops come with up to an Intel Cire i7 U (vPro), 32GB of RAM at launch (and 64GB later), and up to 2TB of storage. There are QHD and FHD options for the screen with optional touch sensitivity.
The 7000 series carries the premium label, but we can call the Latitude 5000 series entry-level. These laptops are cleanly finished and rather classic. All devices use recycled materials and are delivered with an eye on the quality of video and audio.
Again, you can opt for an Intel Core i7 vPro processor inside, although RAM options are a bit more limited. 32GB is the maximum. Screen options are also a bit more limited, with only FHD variants available.
Dell doesn’t have any pricing or availability information for the Dell Latitude 9440 just yet, other than that you won’t have to wait more than a few months. The other devices appear immediately. Of course, the prices depend on the configuration. In anticipation of the launch, however, Dell is keeping a low profile as to what the damage to the bank account is supposed to be.
