Linus Tech Tips is, or at this point we should say, was the go-to channel when it comes to tech information on YouTube. Created by Linus Sebastian an incredible 15 years ago, in 2008, when there were no terms like youtuber and channel monetization was something that was not yet on the table. Those were, as I say, different times when the motivations to be in the service were quite different from today’s and the ecosystem of creators and users was much smaller.
Over the years the channel grew and added more and more subscribers until reach more than 15 million with which she currently had and accumulated more than 2,500 videos, a whole archive that at times even attracted some high-end brands that sometimes directly invested in her. So it is a success story of those that are often used as an example of success on the Internet.
It is said that all stories have an ending, although some are a dot, some are a dot and another dot, some are on the same level as the rest of the story and some are like the end of Los Serrano (a total disappointment, for those who did not watch the series at the time) . And there are some that are hard to explain, like Lost, which, despite the passing years, still raise all sorts of doubts. The question now is whether Linus Tech Tips will follow, separate or final, but either way, there’s no doubt that it has a bit of Los Serrano and a bit of Lost.
If we try to access the channel, the following message appears: «This page is not available. Sorry for the disturbance. Try another search.«. And to what do we owe it? As we can read on TechSpot, Linus Tech Tips was hacked and used to display illegal content and was terminated by YouTube as a result. To be more specific, the attackers who took over Linus’ channel posted several videos of cryptocurrency-based scams, content that the platform highly pursues.
YouTube usually acts exhaustively in these cases, once they discover that material of this type has been published, they will take measures that can range from deleting the video and punishing the channel owner to, as we have seen in many cases, especially if several videos have been uploaded, immediately closing the Chanel. In this case, owners can appeal the decision by reporting what happened, but at least in most cases this is usually unnecessary.
It also seems that the attackers were not content with bringing down Linus Tech Tips, but rather they will also try to take control of other Linus accounts, although luckily it doesn’t look like they’re succeeding so far. This, added to the fact that it is unknown how they were able to gain control of the main channel, suggests that at some point and in some way they must have had access to Linus’ information and/or personal accounts.
