Pure 5G is coming to over 347 Brazilian cities; see list

Municipalities located in 23 states of the country will receive the network this Monday (27)

The decision was made at the Regular Meeting of the Monitoring Group on the Implementation of Solutions to Interference Problems in the 3625-3700 MHz Band (Guyspi). So far, Gaispi has freed up 682 cities to use the 3.5GHz band for autonomous 5G stations, reaching 122.6 million Brazilians, or 57% of the country’s population.

São Paulo tops the list with the most releases, with 66 municipalities. This is followed by Rio Grande do Sul (19), Santa Catarina (17) and Bahia (12). A complete list can be found on the Anatel website.

According to Communications Minister Giuscelino Filho, the aim is to move the discussion forward so that operators can offer quality 5G services and increasingly contribute to the digital inclusion of all citizens. It is expected that with the release, operators will be able to accelerate the adoption of technology throughout the country.

Challenges to be overcome

5G brings a number of benefits to society, including faster and more stable mobile internet connections with lower latency and higher data throughput. This will enable the development of new applications and services such as self-driving cars, virtual and augmented reality, telemedicine and more.

In Brazil, the rollout of 5G has been a gradual process, with the allocation of the 3.5 GHz band to operators and the subsequent installation of the necessary infrastructure to provide the service. So far, Gaispi has released the 3.5 GHz band for use in over 680 cities, covering about 57% of the Brazilian population.

However, issues remain to be resolved, such as compatibility with existing infrastructure, which requires significant investment by operators. Despite this, Brazil continues to forge ahead with 5G adoption and it is expected that more people will soon be able to take advantage of this innovative technology.
