No April Fool’s joke: As of April 1st, the Twitter Blue ticks will disappear for legacy accounts that aren’t yet paying Twitter Blue.
Anyone who is one of the 420,000 Twitter users with a blue tick who is not yet Twitter Blue can pay from April 1, otherwise the label will disappear. In the past, such a blue tick was only given to users who, according to the social media platform, offer added value. This review was free and valuable for the user. Now the tick for Twitter becomes especially valuable.
With Elon Musk at the helm of Twitter after a lavish $44 billion takeover, that money needs to be made back. The social network previously introduced a special checkbox for companies and employees in companies. After that, the Twitter API was made paid for, with a light version available for free use.
At the same time, Twitter Blue was launched worldwide, a paid subscription intended to replace the famous blue tick. It looks identical, but instead of earning it, you can now pay for it. The subscription costs 8 euros per month or 84 euros per year.
If you had a blue tick before Twitter Blue was announced, you could keep it. It turns out for the time being, because from April 1st it will be over. After that, all the “old” blue ticks will disappear and everyone who cares about the tick will have to switch to Twitter Blue.
Along with this announcement, Twitter reports that the subscription is now available to all users worldwide. In addition to a blue tick, you can also use Twitter Blue to write longer texts on Twitter.
Other benefits like higher rankings in conversations and a reduction in the number of ads don’t appear to be working yet, according to The Verge, despite Twitter’s claims.
