NASA has announced that the first manned test flight of Boeing Corporation’s CST-100 Starliner has been delayed. It will take place in May, not April, after Axiom Mission 2. The team is reportedly currently evaluating the ship’s readiness and making final pre-flight checks.
The reason for the delay was the need for additional testing of the Starliner manual control system. Required in the event of a software malfunction so that the ship does not lose control.
The first Starliner crew will include astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams. If all goes according to plan, they will have to spend about two weeks on the ISS. Upon successful return of the ship, it will receive NASA’s regular manned flight certification, which SpaceX previously received with the Crew Dragon spacecraft. It should be noted that the development of Starliner has been going on since 2014, but until now the ship has not received a regular flight permit.
