Guatemalan consular network provides child protection

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala said the baby was rescued on March 20 by border officials on the banks of the Colorado River in Yuma, Arizona, where he was abandoned.

After verifying that the unaccompanied minor was in good health and confirming that he was from Escuintla, it was determined that the child had arrived in the United States in order to reunite with his father, who lives in California.

The agency indicated that the Guatemalan consular mission in Tucson, Arizona, has contacted the father, with whom he will be reunited in the coming days.

“While this process is being carried out, the minor is under the protection of a foster family, during which time he will be under supervision. Subsequently, the Guatemalan Consulate in San Bernardino, California will continue to provide consular assistance and protection.”
