In the latest Windows 11 trial, you’ll see a pop-up notification when you copy and paste an insecure password.
Microsoft is testing a new security feature with Windows Insiders (beta testers) on the Canary Channel, the most experimental channel. Windows 11 Build 25234 includes a feature that notifies users when they copy and paste an insecure password into a password field.
The notification says you have used this password before, hackers can easily steal your information if any of these services are hacked. To avoid this waterfall effect, it is advisable to use an original password for each service. You can click away this message and confirm that you understand the risk, or click the button change password click.
Those who would rather get rid of such a notification than enrich themselves in Windows 11 and stubbornly continue to visit online services with a handful of passwords can disable the notification. For now, users must explicitly enable this notification in the beta test. This rule may change when Microsoft rolls out the notification to all users.
Microsoft has been experimenting with such a pop-up for some time. Beta testers are already seeing it when they enter an insecure password into a password field. Windows 11 now also shows it when copying and pasting.
The Canary Channel is a brand new beta testing channel for Windows 11 to test the very latest features. According to Microsoft, with the focus on developers and enthusiasts, you can also expect significantly more bugs.
