At least six people were killed and 12 injured on Monday in a suicide attack near Ministry of Foreign Affairs in KabulEFE was informed about this by official sources and eyewitnesses.

“The security forces detained a suicide bomber before reaching their target – a checkpoint, and detonated the explosives he had, as a result of which six people were killed and several were injured,” a spokesman for the organization said. Afghan television Tolo News, for its part, confirmed that at least twelve people were injured, citing Emergency, an Italian NGO that operates one of the main hospitals in the capital.

Twelve injured people, including a child, as well as the bodies of two of the victims, arrived at its facilities, according to the said non-governmental organization providing medical services in Kabul, according to a Twitter post.

“There was a very strong explosion that shook the entire area, which is now blocked by security forces,” local merchant Hasibullah told EFE.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, although the jihadist group Islamic State, Khorasan Province (ISKP) made several attacks over the past few months. The IGCP, which views the Taliban as traitors to “Sharia” or Islamic law orthodoxy and advocates a much harsher interpretation, has been the target of a security campaign by the Taliban.

Suicide attack happened after jihadist group Islamic State (IS) claimed responsibility for the last January bombing also to the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leaving at least five dead according to official data.

The Taliban maintain a strong rivalry with the terrorist, which has become one of the main security threats in Afghanistan after the fundamentalists came to power in August 2021.

Faced with an increase in such attacks, for which IS has claimed responsibility, Afghan security forces have stepped up a series of operations to eliminate the jihadist group’s hideouts across the country.

On the same Monday Directorate General of Intelligence (DGI) belonging Taliban reported the deaths of at least three prominent IS members in various operations in recent weeks in northern Afghanistan.
