Samsung has unveiled its latest 5G modem Exynos Modem 5300.. Typically, modems run inside the company’s Exynos processors, but since no Exynos processors were released in 2023, the new modem is expected to be used in Google’s next-generation Tensor chipset, which could be used in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.

Samsung Foundry used a 4nm EUV manufacturing process to create the Exynos Modem 5300 5G, which is a significant improvement over the Exynos Modem 5123 which used a 7nm EUV manufacturing process. With this more advanced process, the Exynos Modem 5300 is much more power efficient than previous generation modems.

Thanks to the EUV 4nm process technology, the Samsung Exynos Modem 5300 delivers improved energy efficiency, extending the battery life of devices. Whether it’s design or engineering, the modem is capable of delivering maximum performance and efficiency for long-term connectivity.

“Charge your device with 5G speed. Designed to unlock the power of next-generation mobile devices, the Exynos Modem 5300 delivers lightning-fast 5G speeds up to 10Gbps, reliable connectivity and long battery life.”

Features similar to Snapdragon X70

Supporting 5G mmWave and sub-6GHz networks in SA and NSA modes, Samsung’s new telecom chip delivers up to 10Gbps download speeds and up to 3.87Gbps upload speeds. The chip is also compatible with FR1, FR2 and EN-DC technologies, providing enhanced and efficient connectivity.

The Exynos Modem 5300 supports the 3GPP 5G NR Release 16 standard, which aims to improve the speed and efficiency of 5G networks. In LTE mode, the modem supports a maximum download speed of 3 Gbps and a maximum download speed of 422 Mbps. It can be connected to the chipset of another smartphone via a PCIe connection.

The new modem developed by Samsung has similar specs to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X70 modem, offering download speeds up to 10Gbps and upload speeds up to 3.5Gbps on supported 5G networks. It is not yet known whether the new Samsung 5G modem supports Dual-SIM Dual-Active mode.
