Microsoft is implementing a major update of Microsoft Teams. We explain in detail how to get started.
After years of development, the long-awaited major update of Microsoft Teams is here. Why is that so important? Read our in-depth analysis for all the details, but the bottom line is the new version is faster, lighter and more economical. Feel free to call it Microsoft Teams 2.0, even if the software giant doesn’t use those words.
It’s important to know that it is Public Trial go. There may still be a few bugs Microsoft wants to fix before rolling out the update to all Windows users worldwide who have Teams installed.
Is there an update option or not?
To try Teams’ big upgrade today, you need a non-educational or non-government Microsoft 365 professional account. You may also need to contact someone in the IT department to change a setting.
To know which step to start with in this guide, you must first open Microsoft Teams. Click on the three dots at the top right, go to The information and see if you’re in Public Preview see standing. Yes? Then proceed to the second step.
Don’t see a preview version? Then you can start with the first step.
STEP 1: Teams admin center
If you don’t see a preview version, you have to contact the IT department. You have to go there (if you want to). Microsoft Teams admin center Browse and links below teams At Teams update policies click. Is there a policy for the whole organization? Then they can click on it. If there are several, the IT service must check which ones you fall under.
Click the policy name and select below Allow public preview the option Allowed. Confirm by pressing Use click. From now on, anyone within the organization (or anyone subject to a specific policy) can start trials of Microsoft Teams.
STEP 2: Enable public preview
Click on the three dots at the top right, go over The information and click Public Preview At. After that, a message will appear at the top of Teams that the software will install an update and will automatically restart at the appropriate time.

STEP 4: New, recognizable environment
What is immediately noticeable is that the new environment feels much smoother. Feel free to experiment and maybe pin a shortcut to the taskbar. Right-click the new icon labeled PRE and select Pin it to the taskbar.
Is the latest version not stable enough on your PC or are you missing some features included in the old version? Then click the slider in the top left to switch to the “old” version of Teams.
Accidentally open the previous version while preferring the new one? You’ll automatically get the above message asking if you want to switch back or if you want the latest version of Teams. It’s up to you to determine if you Yes, downshift chooses or Keep using the new teams.
