As TheElec reports, citing its own sources, Samsung Display will begin production of OLED panels for the iPhone 15 in May: a month earlier than originally planned. This is due to production problems from BOE, which Apple ordered for the production of some OLED panels for the standard iPhone 15 model.
The OLED panel planned for the standard iPhone 15 model is similar to the one used on the iPhone 14 but will receive a cutout for Dynamic Island. cameras and various sensors. BOE is facing light leak issues around the hole and hence the company lost its chance to be one of the first panel suppliers for the iPhone 15.
Samsung Display was already supposed to supply OLED panels for the standard iPhone 15 model, but panel production will start earlier due to problems with the Chinese manufacturer. As for the Pro models, Samsung Display will begin production of OLED panels for them in June, as originally planned.
Meanwhile, LG Display will also begin production of LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models in June. The early start of Samsung Display production does not mean the end of BOE supply to Apple. Sources said that the Chinese display maker is making progress in resolving the issue and may start supplying OLED panels for the iPhone 15 within the year.
