Data mining from the Diablo IV beta revealed information that points to direct storage support, a technology that could be present in the final version of the said game. If confirmed, it will be good news, no doubt about it, and the SSD will be the key to enjoying Blizzard’s new title to the fullest.
In the attached picture you can see references to DirectStorage in Diablo IV Betaand yes, they are quite clear. However, we must keep in mind that Blizzard has not yet confirmed the presence of the mentioned technology in this title, so we will have to wait for that. As this title is scheduled to launch on June 6th, the inclusion of this technology should be confirmed before that date.
DirectStorage technology should significantly reduce load times in Diablo IV. I had a chance to play the beta this weekend and installed it on a PCIe Gen3 x4 SSD to see what the load times were and what performance the title offered. The experience was seamless and the loading screens minimal, so with this technology should practically not exist.
Diablo IV could become the second PC game to support DirectStorage, and that should help reduce CPU load and improve performance in general if properly optimized. I say this because Forspoken was the first to support this technology on PC, and despite everything, optimization was conspicuous by its absence.
With DirectStorage SSD data decompression is done on the GPU and not on the CPU, meaning work is completed faster and more efficiently, freeing up valuable CPU resources. This keeps loading times to a minimum, as we said.
I remind you that Diablo IV too it will support DLSS3 and ray tracing, although this latest technology will be added after launch, so we’ll have to wait to use it. I can also confirm that this is not a demanding game and that we can activate ray tracing without any problem if we have a graphics card at the level of GeForce RTX 3050, Radeon RX 6600 or higher. If you need help choosing a PC to play Diablo IV on, don’t miss this guide.
