The Hubble telescope took a picture of a galaxy in the shape of a jellyfish

An image released by NASA shows the Hubble Space Telescope’s JW100 galaxy looking like a jellyfish.. This similarity is caused by a flow of gas that floats like tentacles and results in the formation of new stars that appear to come from what could be the tentacles of an animal.

The glowing gas tentacles on the JW100 are the result of a process called RAM blast jet, giving them the appearance of dangling tentacles. Because of this appearance, astronomers have nicknamed this galaxy “jellyfish”. JW100 lies over 800 million light-years away in the constellation Pegasus.

Reducing pressure in RAM is the process responsible for the “tentacles” in the JW100. This happens when galaxies collide with diffuse gas that permeates galaxy clusters. This gas acts like a headwind, pulling gas and dust out of the galaxy. The bright elliptical spots in the image are other galaxies in the cluster containing JW100.

The image shows not only the bright tendrils of JW100, but also a surprisingly bright area of ​​ambient light at the top, which contains two bright spots in the core. These spots are the core of IC 5338, the brightest cD galaxy in the cluster.

The photo was only possible thanks to the Hubble telescope

This photo could only be taken with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), which is a large telescope launched by NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). The HST orbits the Earth at an altitude of about 550 km and is equipped with a range of advanced instruments that allow astronomers to study the universe.

As with the life-like galaxy, Hubble has already taken many iconic images of the universe, such as stunning nebulae, distant galaxies and planets in our solar system. Thus, it allows scientists to study astronomy more widely, and also gives more knowledge about space.
