The Powkiddy Y6 tiny TV stick with retro console emulation is out. The TV Stick comes with hardware powerful enough to emulate several first-generation game consoles. It is very compact, can be easily mounted behind the TV and works unobtrusively.
The Y6 is as small as a Google Chromecast or an Amazon Fire TV Stick. It has an HDMI port on one end and a USB-A port on the other. The USB-C connector is for power and there’s also a microSD slot on the side. The stick measures 3.9×1.5×0.6 inches and the device comes with two controllers.
Wireless controllers are very similar to PlayStation 2 DualShock controllers. They have two analog sticks, four shoulder buttons, a control pad and ABXY face buttons. The Y6 is powered by an Amlogic S905X2 chipset with quad-core architecture and Mali-G32 MP2 GPU. The Powkiddy Y6 TV Drive has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, but offers an additional 64/128/256GB microSD storage. The stick comes preloaded with EmuELEC 4.3 designed for retro gaming.
The Y6 is unlikely to stream media from Netflix or YouTube, but it can download some third-party apps. It can also play simple games from Nintendo Gamecube and Sega Dreamcast. It is possible that Powkiddy will also work with PlayStation 1 or 2D PlayStation Portable (PSP) games. The Powkiddy Y6 is available for US$46.99 via Aliexpress worldwide.
