More than a thousand people, including billionaire Elon Musk and former Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, signed an open letter calling for “stopping” the development of powerful AI-based systems to give them time to stay safe.
As reported by Ukrinform, France24 reports this.
“Human competitive intelligence and systems based on artificial intelligence can pose serious risks to society and humanity. Powerful systems based on AI should only be developed when we are confident that the impact will be positive and the risks will be manageable.”
It was noted that after the OpenAI initiative published a new model based on the artificial intelligence GPT-4, experts and volunteers decided to sign the open letter.
The company said its latest model is much more powerful than the previous version, which was used to run the ChatGPT chatbot, which can generate text snippets from the shortest prompts.
Musk was one of OpenAI’s early investors and served on its board for many years. Car company Tesla is currently developing AI-based systems to help implement autonomous driving technology.
The letter, published by the Musk-funded Institute for the Future of Life, was signed by prominent critics as well as OpenAI competitors such as Stability AI chief Emad Mostake.
As reported by Ukrinform, Sam Altman, CEO of the OpenAI initiative, which developed the chatbot with artificial intelligence (AI) ChatGPT, believes that AI technology will change society as we know it, but it also brings certain dangers.
