United Nations International Organization for MigrationIOM) announced this Wednesday the creation new tracking network from the number missing migrants on America’s migratory routes to analyze this growing phenomenon.

The network will be managed Global Data Institute IOM, which has overseen the Missing Migrants Project for nearly a decade, is a similar tool for counting these victims of migratory routes globally.

Statistics from the Missing Migrants project show that in 2022, at least 1433 migrants on their way to other places, the highest since the beginning of these statistics in 2014.

“The lack of safe and regular routes is often origin of these tragedies“, said Global Data Institute director Coco Warner, who pointed out that the new US network is “committed to sharing trusted data to contribute to evidence-based policy.”
