Some Android users have experienced an issue with the “back” gesture. When all they want to do is just reset the image, they usually go back to the page or home screen. Google is working to improve this gesture and a new solution will be presented at Google I/O.
One of the events at the Google I/O 2022 conference, which starts on Wednesday, May 11 and ends the next day, is Back to System Fundamentals. Google wrote on the event graph: “Learn how the future of Android will help you create predictable reverse navigation with satisfying animation.”
In other words, Google seems to be working on “predictable reverse navigation” involving artificial intelligence and machine learning. Android can understand your intent over time when you use the back gesture based on previous use of the navigation.
Users can still return to the three-button navigation by selecting “Settings” > “System” > “Gestures” > “System Navigation”. You will be presented with two options: gesture navigation or three-button navigation.
If you’re currently having trouble with reverse, you can adjust the rollback sensitivity to make it work properly. Click on the “Settings” gear icon under the “System Navigation” heading and you will see a sliding scale that will make the sensitivity of the gesture lower or higher for both the left and right edge (it’s set right in the middle by default).
