Google Accused of Stealing ChatGPT: Is There Truth Behind Allegations?

AI wars are in full swing as companies respond to the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Google recently introduced the AI chatbot Bard as a competitor in this space. However, there have been allegations of intellectual theft as Google copied the technology from Microsoft’s OpenAI ChatGPT. Google has now responded to these claims.

Google denies copying ChatGPT to train its own Bard AI chatbot

The accusations were fueled by a report in The Information that claimed the success of ChatGPT had prompted two AI research groups at Google’s parent company Alphabet to set aside their intense rivalries and collaborate. The report states that engineers from Google’s Brain AI team are working on a collaborative effort called Gemini with employees of Alphabet’s sister company DeepMind. This collaboration reportedly started after Google’s first attempt to compete with the OpenAI chatbot via Bard failed.

Speaking to The Verge, a Google spokesperson denied the allegations, saying “Bard is not trained on ShareGPT or any data from ChatGPT.” Google also announced early access to Bard as an experimental collaboration with generative AI for users. Bard Early Access is currently available in the United States and United Kingdom and plans to expand its availability to more countries and languages. Like its competitors OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing chatbot, Bard is based on the Large Language Model (LLM). It uses a lightweight and optimized version of LaMDA, which Google has confirmed will be updated with new and more powerful models in the future.

Users can interact with Bard by asking questions and clarifying their answers with follow-up questions. This interactive approach allows users to explore the capabilities of Google’s AI chatbot and provide valuable feedback for further development. Despite accusations of copying ChatGPT, Google continues its independent development and provides its users with a unique artificial intelligence chatbot. The company has taken a firm stand against the allegations and continues to invest in the development of its own AI technology.
