Lunar Crush, a cryptocurrency and NFT investment firm, will send a wallet key containing 62 bitcoins, currently worth approximately $1.77 million, to the moon. These bitcoins, which are planned to be sent to the surface of a satellite in the fall of 2023 during the launch of the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket as part of the Artemis 1 mission, will be the reward for the first person to reach them.

Lunar Crush CEO Joe Vazzini said, “When you set yourself a goal that seems unattainable, innovation can be incredible. Our goal is to inspire people to create communities that will usher in a new era of discovery. All students, groups and companies can go to the moon and find treasure there.”

LunarOutpost founder Dr. Forrest Mayen said the Nakatomo_1 project is an opportunity to inspire the next generation to overcome barriers to space travel and exploration. The company also announced that the process of scraping the key to the bitcoin wallet on the spacecraft will be fully documented and transparent. It is also alleged that no one, including internal developers, will be able to access the password.

The spacecraft is expected to be launched into space with a SpaceX rocket in the last quarter of this year, but an exact date has not yet been announced due to safety concerns. LunarCrush will allegedly sell some of its NFT collections to purchase bitcoins to be sent to the moon. The space probe that will contain the switch will do some wireless data transmission tests at the Moon’s south pole.
