The Star64 it’s a single-board computer similar to the Raspberry Pi, but with a RISC-V processor. Its low price makes it ideal for developers, testers and enthusiasts new to this architecture.

In case you are not familiar with this platform, say so RISC-V is a project that originated at the University of California, Berkeley, and its main goal is to develop today’s most promising Open Source processor in the field. Its goal is ambitious: to offer a more economical (and open) way to manufacture semiconductors for current applications and all the new technologies yet to come.

Pine64’s Star64

Pine64 is a manufacturer known for its development with ARM chips and Linux systems, such as the PinePhone mobile phone or the Pinebook notebook. Also for his various single board minicomputers. If until now the Chinese integrator was targeting ARM, it was announced premiere in RISC-V with Star64. And it will be available from this week.

The board is powered by a processor StarFive JH7110, which includes four 1.5GHz SiFive FU740 64-bit RISC-V processor cores, Imagination BXE-4-32 graphics and an integrated 32-bit RISC-V E24 CPU core. According to Pine64, the chip should be able to offer similar performance to the Rockchip RK3566, a 4-core ARM SoC that is perhaps the most common in SBC boards.

The Star64 supports up to 8GB of RAM and has up to 128GB of storage, which can be expanded using microSD cards. The board is very well connectedwith support for wireless standards Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, one USB 3.0 port, three USB 2.0 ports and one HDMI.

It also has a PCIe x1 slot; 4-lane MIPI-DSI display connectors; GPIO pins including i2c, SPI and UART; 3.5 mm audio jack aa DC power connector for power adapter 12V/3A.

The Star64 will be available from April 4th on the manufacturer’s website, and we anticipate that it will soon be available for purchase on the international retail channel through platforms such as Aliexpress and the like. The selling price is 70 dollars (with 4GB of RAM) and $90 for the 8GB configuration.
