On April 1, Asus introduced the ROG Ally portable game console, and now it turns out that this is no joke. Although it is not yet clear when and at what price the console will be, it will indeed be on the market.
But at the same time, the device has already begun to attract attention. First, at least because this is the company’s first console of its kind in the segment that Asus plays. The latter is not a cloud-based set-top box, but a full-fledged standalone device. The heart here is expected to be a Ryzen hybrid processor, however, and this can be attributed to the third reason, it’s not a serial APU but a kind of semi-custom solution. Unfortunately, specs haven’t been announced yet, but Asus is calling it the fastest APU already. But there is information that this is a Zen 4-core processor and a GPU based on the RDNA 3 architecture, that is, a certain analogue for the Phoenix line.
Fourth, and this is the console’s most unique feature, it has a ROG XG connector that allows you to connect an external video card to the device! So, in desktop console mode, ROG Ally can be turned into a full-fledged ultimate gaming solution.
As for the rest, the console will receive a seven-inch Full HD display with a brightness of up to 500 cd/m2. With a frame frequency of 120 Hz. The size of the Asus console is smaller than the size of the Steam Deck. The dimensions here are equal to 280x113x39 mm and a weight of 608 grams Novelty will run under Windows management.
