Australia will announce this week a ban on using TikTok on public phones, Australian media reported on Monday, following the example of other countries that have banned a Chinese-owned video app for security reasons.

first minister, Anthony Albanese, agreed to ban the use of TikTok on all government devices after a review by the Home Office is completed, an Australian newspaper reported.

USA, UK, New Zealand, Canada, Belgium and the European Commission has already banned the app on official devices for security reasons.

TikTok is coming under increasing scrutiny over concerns that user data from an app owned by Beijing-based ByteDance may end up in the hands of the Chinese government, undermining Western security interests.

This was announced by the CEO of Tiktok Australia Lee Hunter. Age that the company was disappointed to learn of the ban through the media “despite our repeated suggestions to engage constructively with the government on this policy.”

“Not here, we don’t ban here,” Lopez Obrador said when asked at his daily conference call about U.S. Congressmen’s criticism of the digital platform and the measures taken against it in other countries.

“Absolute freedom, We have no such concerns. and we guarantee the free expression of ideas and we do not prohibit, it is forbidden to prohibit,” he added.
