A NASA prepares for these new missions and has recently released costumes that astronauts will use Artemis 3 on a future missionscheduled for 2025. Unlike the usual ones, these suits are black and caused a certain stir. But there’s a simple explanation for this, and why astronauts can’t wear a black suit in space.

Basic black can’t go to the moon

But the black color isn’t revolutionary, it’s just Axion Space’s attempt to hide the details of its costume from competitors. Thus, the brand intends to prevent copying the innovations created for its suit.

This new suit will only be used on the Artemis 3 mission, which explores the cold southern part of the Moon for the first time. And that’s one of the reasons you can’t wear black suits when exploring space: extreme temperatures.

Why do astronauts only wear white suits?

Astronauts will be announced this Monday (3) to be part of the Artemis 3 mission. These new space travelers will need suits that can withstand the hostility of space. Our satellite, although visited before, has never received astronauts in the southern part. Unlike on Earth, on the Moon we have no way to protect ourselves from solar radiation, where temperatures range from 200°C in the light to -180°C in the shade.
