The iPad was the last One more thing Steve Jobs, who took the stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco andl January 27, 2010 to confirm what rumors and leaks have been circulating for months: Apple was working on a device with a tablet format that would reproduce much of the functionality of the iPhone, but of course with a larger screen. Some awaited it with open arms, but others wondered at the usefulness of such a device.

The presentation, like many of Jobs’ other keynotes, it was a huge success, and quickly began counting down the hours until the first iPads hit the market. They would do it first, as was and still is common, in the United States, although expansion into international markets would be much less delayed than with other devices, as happened previously with the iPhone, to give a particularly memorable example.

So if the iPad was unveiled on January 27th (just a day after my birthday, which I clearly took as a sign), just over two months later, On April 3, 2010, American Apple Stores stocked with iPads opened their doors to make way for the legions of users who queued up a few hours ago to get their hands on a new type of device that arrived for… it still wasn’t too clear why, but it became a resounding success from day one.

We took a look at the first generation iPad, which went on sale on this day in 2010, and compared it to its great-great-grandson, the 10th generation model that we can currently find on the market (and that coexists with the 9th). As you can see with the naked eye, the development of the Apple tablet over these ten years is simply spectacular.

After the first generation iPad came its iterations, but also iPad Mini and iPad Pro, which have also continued to evolve over the years and which today have very consolidated positions in the market, which many predicted would not happen because they did not see the point in tablets. It would be interesting to know what people say today, ten years later. Although well, frankly, it would also be interesting to know what Jobs would have said before such an expansion of the catalog.

A few hours ago we remembered that today marks fifty years since the first call with a mobile phone, a milestone that we must undoubtedly find in the timeline of technological development that led to the arrival of the iPad, 37 years later.
