Motorola shows the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. The manufacturer’s latest flagship pretty much ticks all the boxes, offering an uncompromised experience on paper in a beautiful package.
Motorola prefers to release too many devices rather than too few. Six months after the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, it’s time for the Motorola Edge 40 Pro. This device has to take over the captain’s armband in the line-up and is therefore given a robust interior in a visually attractive jacket. Inside we find the following key components:
A Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: the most powerful mobile chip currently available;
12 GB LPDDR5X memory: more than enough and competitive in the upper segment;
256GB or optional 512GB UFS 4.0 storage: That’s a lot of very fast storage.
These components are housed behind a 6.67-inch (165 Hz) OLED screen protected with Gorilla Glass Victus. Motorola offers a screen ratio of 20:9 with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels. The display is HDR10+ certified. Motorola goes into almost comical detail about the design when showcasing the phone. In summary: The thing has rounded edges and looks good.
Four cameras
The specs are also very good when it comes to cameras. We see the following sensors and lenses:
The main camera has a 50 MP sensor with 1 µm pixel size and optical image stabilization;
The wide-angle camera also has a 50 MP sensor, but the pixels are smaller (0.64 µm), so in theory it will perform slightly worse than the main camera, especially in low light. This camera doubles as a macro lens;
The portrait camera is actually a 2x zoom paired with a modest 12-megapixel sensor;
The selfie camera features a 60MP sensor for those who want to appear crisp on their mobile video calls.
Motorola ships this phone with Android 13, which traditionally doesn’t have too much useless proprietary sauce added to it. We give you access to Motorola Ready For through the device, which allows you to conveniently connect the phone to a laptop.
Fast charging
When Motorola says fast charging, it’s not lying. The phone packs a 4,600mAh battery that you can fully charge in 23 minutes using the included 125W charger.
No fiddling with your own standards for charging, such as with Oppo: the charger is USB Type-C Power Delivery compatible. So you can use the thing to charge your laptop or, conversely, quickly charge your smartphone with your laptop charger.
sharp price
The Motorola Edge 40 Pro is expected to hit store shelves in the coming days. The suggested retail price (including VAT) is 899 euros, which is quite competitive for a phone with these specifications. This usually means that less visible details such as water or dust resistance have been saved, but the IP68 certification proves the opposite.
With the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, we saw that Motorola had rediscovered what a premium phone is. The details of this new device suggest that the manufacturer has not forgotten that.
