The American aerospace research agency NASA talked about its next success in conquering the Red Planet. The Ingenuity helicopter made a new flight to Mars and simultaneously set two records for speed and altitude.
49 flights operated by Ingenuity on Sunday, April 2nd. According to the mission log, the 1.8 kg helicopter reached a maximum speed of 23.3 km/h and a maximum height of 16 meters. Previous records were 21.6 km/h and 14 m, respectively.
As a reminder, the Ingenuity helicopter was delivered to Mars attached to the base of the Perseverance rover, which landed in Lake crater on February 18, 2021. Ingenuity’s primary missions are to demonstrate the technology, perform the first flights to Mars, and explore for Perseverance. Ingenuity spent 86.7 minutes in the air on all 49 flights and covered 11,224 km.
